Motherhood, parenting, baby food, toddler, advice, freebies, baby gear, potty training, childrens books, diaper bags, playgroups, work at home mom, and whatever else I decide to talk about.

So I finally jumped on the bandwagon and joined MyBloglog. And, I honestly have to say I find it all a little overwhelming. Now that I know who is reading my blog (since there are a ton of lurkers that do not comment- hint, hint!) I want to see what their blog has to offer, and I find myself lost in the blog-o-sphere hours later. Work and motherly duties be damned- I have blogs to read!
Ohhh….who is this person….who is that….hmmmm….interesting….click click…no honey, I don’t know where the baby is….yeah, I’ll start dinner in a minute….clickity clack….he took his diaper off again?….clickity clack….
And then of course, there is my dusty blogroll that has been seriously neglected. These are blogs that I went out of my way to spotlight, but then I am a complete slacker when it comes to reading them. So I set out this evening to catch up, which is no easy feat. In fact, I gave up halfway through it. Some of the blogs, I found something instantly to comment on, while others had l—ooooo—-nnnnn-g posts and I couldn’t bring myself to actually finish them. Now, don’t get me wrong, they were amazing posts, I am just lazy today. So if you didn’t get a comment, don’t take it personally. I have had to pee for like an hour now, but haven’t gotten up the strength to get up from the computer chair yet.
Then a handful of them (maybe more) I had serious issues with. Some of these blogs are nothing but Pay Per Post ads. The blogs in question, used to be good. They were full of witty commentary and stories. I enjoyed reading them and looked forward to finding out what happened in the saga that was their world. But now, I find 15 paid blogs and maybe one or two old school blogs thrown into the mix. I don’t have the time or patience to wade through the crap, looking for the hidden gems that were once a good blog. What ever happened to promoting things that you believe in? Or at the very least, being creative about it! My blog has ads and I will tell my readers about products like I like, but you will never find me pimping teeth whitening gels or dog shampoos. I am even a member of Pay Per Post. I too got taken in by the promise of crisp $5 dollar bills for blogging about other people’s junk. But I don’t want to sacrifice a year of blogging, I don’t want to alienate my readership in the process. Am I the only one that thinks that the blogging community is being hosed by these kind of services? What ever happened to telling a story just to tell a story?

I got caught up in the mybloglog space too!! It really does take a toll. I have to check out everyone elses blogs and then forget what i was doing with mine! I am not on payperpost and was hoping to be when my blog is old enough so I hope when or if I get on there I do not turn into a ad blog.
By the way I love your blog!! I found you by my the goodblogs box on my blog!!
I’ve decided to devote only one day a week to actively looking for altoghether new blogs to sample (usually through the blogrolls of others I’ve come to know — the good old housekeeping stamp of approval idea — and devote the lion’s share of my day-to-day to developing higher quality blogs posts…but lest I sound too holier than thou though — it is very HARD not to keep linking around aimlessly. Thanks very much for including me in your blogroll, I see it’s led to new traffic.
The internet has seriously exacerbated my ADD. While I’m cruising web sites the kids are… well, I really don’t know what the kids are doing because I’m so wrapped up in the net. My hope is that when I finally come up for air they’ll still be in the house and won’t have done anything that could land them in the hospital or me in prison.
LOL
I’m so glad to hear some honesty about the pay-per-post fiasco. It may be tempting, but it can’t be maintaied in any subtle way. It’s social/readership death.
It is so hard to keep up. Blogging takes such discipline, especially with so much life happening every minute. You’re amazing for doing it at all, and well to boot!
Awww- shucks, you are making me blush.
“Ohhh….who is this person….who is that….hmmmm….interesting….click click”
Haha! So true.. I find it overwhelming as well.
OMG YES to everything on this page! I am going absolutely insane since discovering blogging a few weeks ago. It’s just like when I first found eBay!
I started my first blog a few weeks ago and it’s been kind of abandoned, as I got totally caught up exploring not only MyBlogLog, but all the other blog services, widgets and awesomely educational blogging blogs.
Suddenly I have about a zillion RSS feeds by email, in my bookmarks, feedburner, google reader - they’re everywhere!
My baby is 15 months old and all he ever sees of mummy when she’s not playing with/feeding etc him, is the back of her back, going CLICKETY CLACK sitting on her BUM crack around the CLOCK, instead of normal stuff like housework (what the hell is that?).
Thanks for this post, and everyones agreement - I don’t feel so alone now with this insanity, LMAO.
