I completely agree with your rant. I have the same type of aquaintances and it’s so sad that I almost feel like I can’t afford to be freinds with them because they are ALWAYS hitting me up to buy something from some new venture.

I think that sticking with one or two direct sales businesses does make you look more professional than jumping from one biz op to the next.

Just my opinion anyway ;). Great post!

Interesting Rant! I think it’s cool to hear how other mommy’s make money at home. It seems to me like you are very creative with all that stuff…… I sell Natural Family Boutique. I was really nervous about starting with it though because it is a MLM and I was leary of that set up. I had thought I would make tons of money on products that sell themselves. I was wrong….. I do love the products, and so far it has meant I get a discount on the things I love. But I hate the idea of being one of those cheesy sales people that is always pressuring their friends, so I have become the anti-thesis of that, and gone too far the other way I think.
Guide me oh wise one!! How can I strike the proper balance??? LOL

Completely agree with your rant! I do sell Avon, but I try really hard not to shove it down my friend’s throats. It’s hard to get out there and sell to people you don’t know, but that’s the only way to build a business. If I have a friend willing to give me an in into her workplace, awesome. Otherwise, unless they express an interest in Avon, I try not to even mention it. I figure - they know I’m selling it, if they want it they’ll come to me.
Hopefully I’m building better relationships that way!

Your book is such a great idea! Would that all your WHAM pals could get into actually producing something to sell instead of hawking the same old same old. I make it a policy to toss anything solicitous in email, and to talk to people about the realities of MLMs when approached. Just tell them they won’t ever make any real money until they leave their friends alone and hit the cold market. And you’re right, they had better know their product!

I’m checking out your book and lulu.com. I’m afraid I found it a few months too late, alas, but admire your chutspa!
