A month ago I was at a crossroads. I cried ALOT and worried about what I was going to do for a living. I was so used to doing 100 different things at once, that when my major client decided to call it quits I went into a funk. It took a lot of soul searching, but I finally decided that I wanted to put my heart and soul into the diaper business. GADBaby has been around for years, but I never devoted the time and energy that I (or Super-Daddy) wanted me to. It’s what I love…truly….I dream of cloth diapers.
So it’s been a month, since I decided to really focus on the business. And I have to say that I am THRILLED with how things are going. I am not rolling the dough, but I am busy…and happy. My customers are amazing, and everyone is so nice and sweet. I get emails from other WAHM’s daily, asking if we can work together or giving me words of encouragement or advice. I send out huge batches of fluffy mail every few days.
I have ads now on Facebook, and spend a lot of time on twitter and my facebook fan page talking about diapers. I have several giveaways and reviews on slate for next month as well, to spread the word and get my company name out there.
It is hard balancing the kids, the house, and all the added work that comes with running your own business. And on slow days, I have mini panic attacks. Because with business, you are always concerned about what other people think of you and your product. Do they like me? Do they hate me? It’s very stressful, lol. But I love being able to call the shots. I choose where to advertise, and how to reach my customers. I pick the direction that I am headed- and that really rocks.
Oh, and another one of my side projects came to fruitition this month. My cloth diaper detergent. I launched it a few weeks ago, and the response has been overwhelming. For those of you that don’t use cloth diapers, finding a good wash routine is the biggest headache to cloth diapering. Once you find something that works, you are golden…but many people never find that. So Rockin’ Green is changing that for a lot of people, and that really gets me excited!
So that is what I have been up to this month- and why I haven’t had time to stop and blog here much. I will try to write more often (because my mom tells me that I am boring and dont blog enough) but I just wanted to share an update and let you know that I am no longer at a crossroads. I am full steam ahead- just call me the diaper lady!

When I was pregnant with Baby Z I started collecting diapers as soon as the stick turned pink. It took me 9 months to create the perfect newborn stash, with all the hard to find diapers that I craved. Hours, days actually were spent stalking websites waiting for diapers to be posted…it was an obsession. I rationalized it by thinking that he would wear them for a good 4 months or so.
At first we had planned to just use pockets for the baby, but everyone including those that make pockets say that for the first few months you are going to want fitteds for the bulk of your stash. Because breastfed poop defies gravity. He also has a weird tendency to pee out the side of his diapers, something that I know he will outgrow. So for now, I can’t even use the diapers that I love (and sell) so much.
So by week 3 , I had a large stash of diapers that no longer fit. Super-Daddy chimed in with his vote early on with is favorite newborn brand. He liked the muttaquin baby fitteds. And the fact that he had an opinion at all on the subject, made me giddy and it was like a green light to buy more..in bulk. So I traded most of our stash for the next size up- the medium babyshape . The problem is, she only stocks every week or so and there usually isn’t a whole lot to choose from. So I ended up buying anything that I could get my hands on, used or new.
By the time I got them all in, they were starting to be too short in the rise. Super-daddy kept complaining about “baby butt crack”. Throw in a toddler who is getting taller and skinnier daily, and we are a regular crack house.
So last week, I started scrambling to buy the medium long babyshape diapers. I managed to get a hold of 3. At this point, I am exhausted and feel like I should just buy him larges and forget about the whole damn thing. Because he just gets longer and fatter daily (go breastmilk!)- and these funky sizing options are making the diaper buying process not fun. And it really should be…I used to thrive on it .I can’t wait until we can get back into pockets and use the small, medium, large sizing again- because those are predictable.
I walked into the room last night and Super-daddy had pulled out some diapers out of the baby’s closet that I had forgotten about. The old mighty goodmama. Well I didn’t really forget about them, you can’t really forget about $300 dollars worth of diapers…but I didn’t think they would fit yet. His butt is a bit fluffier than some of the other diapes, but at least I know he can wear them for longer than a week.
So now our stash is a dozen or so mutts- that will be phased out as the pockets take over and a dozen goodmamas. No wait…make that 18 goodmamas, I bought another 6 this morning. (ssshhh…don’t tell!)

It’s officially been 2 weeks since we started our potty training adventure, and I am now comfortable enough to call it. We are now pooping and peeing in the potty each and every time, and able to hold it or tell us when we are out in public. SUB pretty much goes on his own, and calls me afterward to do the potty dance of joy with him. LOL
Playgroups may still be touchy (we have a second trial run tomorrow) but when we are home or running errands, it’s 100% big boy undies. I haven’t had to clean the carpet in a week!
Of course it’s bittersweet, because I love my diapers. But I will have another butt to diaper in just a 3 short months, so right now I am perfectly content to wash fewer loads of laundry, and watch his cute little elmo covered butt run around the house as only a big boy can.
